Pekuru’s curse

A long time ago, in the land of Dreizlan, people celebrated a grand festival where everyone wore masks. At first it was joyful and beautiful. But over time, the rich began competing. Their masks grew larger, heavier, and covered in jewels and gold. The poorer folk could only watch.

High above the land, the god Pekuru observed his people. He saw how pride had replaced joy. The masks became so enormous that people suffered neck pain from carrying them- yet no one dared to wear a smaller one.

He sighed, Pekuru descended and gave them a choice: “End this tradition” the people answered: “yes we will” and they actually listened and threw their masks away. But not long after, the people had a new tradition but this time they wore jewels. One woman had a ring with such a big diamond that her finger dragged across the floor the entire day. Pekuru sighed and went to the people again and said “end this tradition”. The folk answered: “yes we will” and threw away all their jewellery. But even this time the people of Dreizlan started wearing bigger hats with more detail.

This made Pekuru so mad he turned to the people and shouted: “I gave you all two chances now I am done. You are miserable people! And for that I will punish you all!” he snapped his fingers and an ice storm colder than the people’s hearth began to spread. People’s hats froze to their heads, and many people tried to take the hat off, but it wouldn’t budge. The people cried “were sorry Pekuru we will listen this time!!” But Pekuru saw their greed. And ascended back to his god realm.

A week later most people already left Dreizlan searching for a warmer place to stay.

From that moment on it would be cold In Dreizlan.

‘The lesson: don’t let greed take over you’.
